YO! Home

Put a revolutionary idea, grand design and space consciousness together - what do you get? YO! Home, the transforming apartment that is filled with engineering technology, the mechanics of stage production and can transform a relatively small space into a luxuriously large living area - two or three times the original size - at the click of a switch. The founder of the YO! brand (which includes franchises such as YO! Sushi and Yotel), Simon Woodroffe, unveiled the intuitive living space at an exhibition in Earls Court in September last year.

The japanese-inspired YO! Home apartment cleverly consists of twelve moving parts including gliding walls, an elevator bedroom, a sunken lounge, flip-up tables, discreet storages including a wine cellar and numerous other mechanical elements. This means that in an instant, its resident can transform the living room into a bedroom or office space. It almost comes across as a glimpse into the future of contemporary living for city dwellers. The flexibility and modernity of the apartment may one day allow us all to live luxuriously without accumulated junk and without the feeling of claustrophobia.

Simon Woodroffe, founder, says:

“Homes help shape our lives. They are our refuge, and our rock. Since the invention of the city centre apartment, we’ve never really re-invented it. YO! Home is that new invention. Twelve moving parts drawing on the mechanics of stage scenery allow the transformation of an eighty square metre space (the size of a one bedroom apartment) into a much bigger home.”

It's an exciting concept that I hope is introduced to London homes one day!
